Heart Makes a Wish

A few years ago on choir tour, we (the chorale team) took a break from singing to go on a walk. My mind was busy with things of school, friendships, and various identity issues, but as I breathed in the waterfall spray and looked into the starry sky things began to ebb away. Some friends took it upon themselves to hop from rock to rock precariously near the base of the stream, and though no real risk was there (asides the necessity to change into dry clothes upon arriving back at the host home), I declined to take part in the play.

Why didn't I join in?

Fear?

Feelings of discomfort?

Anxiety?

The more I indulge myself in studying psychology the more I come to appreciate the human brain. We are made so intricately that even now in 2018 doctors and scientists have only been able to study a teeny tiny portion of our thinking muscle. Humanity is nowhere close to being able to replicate such an organ, unlike the lungs, heart and liver.

If I haven't learned anything in the past five years studying psychology, there's one thing I'm overjoyed to be able to takeaway. It's common sense, but in today's society COMMON SENSE IS NOT SO COMMON. And the message is this, a healthy brain equates to a healthy life.

70% of people in the US are unhappy with their current life. They hate their job, have little to no interest in their family/friends, and would rather have more things to bring about "true happiness". The problem however isn't in the what you have, as that 70% represented is spread across race, gender and socioeconomic status. It doesn't matter if you have things or not, the overall mental state remains the same!

So then why didn't I join in? Out of wisdom? Out of spite?

No... it's because I didn't want to take a STEP from where I was for unnecessary risk, since the place I was at already was too much to handle.

The chain of command goes like this:

HEART > BRAIN > EMOTIONS > LIFESTYLE > HEART

So it starts and ends with our moral compass. Once we're able to create a pure reality our brain will fall into alignment, and then our emotional state will be upright. With under control emotions, relations to others will be a breeze, and our overall quality of life will skyrocket into success.
