Time-Turner

Harry Potter is one of the most-loved series of all time (I read all the books and watched all the movies in under three weeks lol). In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione is given a device from a teacher that allows the user to travel back in time... hence the Time-Turner.
The number of times the owner rotated the device indicated how many hours you could go back in time. Isn't that awesome!
How many things I'd go back and correct... what I did, what I said. If we were honest with ourselves we all have regrets. But what if I told you we can go back in time, even if modern technology doesn't permit us to (yet).
Things of the past can haunt, debilitate and scramble our present. The choices made years ago have not only physical but also emotional impacts on our future. So how does one go about fixing that which is already in motion?
I attended a Christian K-12 school as a child, one with strict policies but great staff. As the majority accept, cussing is uncouth (so not cool), and immature. Unfortunately for me, I was recently exposed to some select words in the 9th grade and my filter was a little off kilter.
Dashing to fetch my lunchbox from a certain classroom (after school hours) I managed to trip on my shoelace sending my unprotected knee into the ceramic flooring. The F-word rocketed from my mouth... just in time for my 6th grade teacher to step-out from around the corner.
My stomach dropped.
I couldn't believe it; all these years holding onto my beliefs/virtues and one slip up undoes me.
How many times do we do just that? One thing wrong in a pool of rights really does stand out like a sore thumb doesn't it? Reputation is one of the hardest things to construct, and even harder to maintain.
If I had a Time-Turner you better believe I would have gone an hour back and tried to undo my mistake, and that is just one of many (read yesterday's posting for a more humorous example). The things we put before us are what we will become. So how do we correct this? How is it possible for a human to GO BACK in time?
We need to learn how to do three things: Forgive, Forget and Fortify.
Forgive- So many times we grovel in our despair. We think on how much of a failure we are and how unforgivable our circumstance is. Just as it's healthy to forgive others (seriously, look it up, people who forgive actually live longer!) we also need to forgive ourselves just as much.
Forget- That nagging thought about what we did the other day, week, year... well it doesn't belong in your brain. The human mind is a sanctuary that directs the flow of your thoughts and consequently, actions. If you can train yourself to forget your misdeeds (but not the lesson learned) you can prepare yourself for success!
Fortify- Build up a wall. Don't be an eggshell, fragile and wimpy. Prepare for the best and when the worst happens, roll with it. We WILL make mistakes but that doesn't justify our actions; instead be on your guard for the temptations and pressures of life. Train your subconscious to deflect negative thoughts and actions, then watch your life flourish.
Tune in next Monday for something a little more lighthearted :D
